Things may be changing a bit in Virginia. Check out this report from one of our readers. This letter is in response to a question I had. Some places are advertised as topless yet the dancers use transparent latex.

03/08 WOM, I looked into the transparent pastie thing you mentioned (best damn homework I ever had...). Final Frontier, Lappers, etc (the actual topless clubs with lapdances and no alcohol) are well and truly topless. No semi-invisible pastie involved. Places like Headlights apparently aren't using pasties, but according to state law, should be.

After talking around with friends and checking the local news, I found that the major change came last summer when a federal judge stopped the ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) bubbas from enforcing upon clubs where alcohol is served and clothing is removed. Apparently, ABC and state law hold it as lewd behavior. ABC is working to get their enforcement powers back. State legislators are working on passing a new law that will get around the federal judge's injunction.
At this time, I haven't heard about anything that affects the places where alcohol ISN'T served. They should continue to be fine.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I tend to go out about once a month. I keep intending to go check out The Hot Seat on GW Highway, but I'm torn between scoping out a new place, and going back to see some of my favorite girls... Decisions, decisions... :-)

Might check out some of the spots in Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach someday, but I'm not in too much of a rush to go somewhere (and/or spend money) where I know there's more clothing involved than at the beach.

02/08 Headlights status: On the bar side, they were definitely walking around on stage in nothing but a bikini bottom / thong. No pasties. I can't speak from experience for the other side. It's really confusing because it's all one building, with Headlights on one side (with stages and a bar), and JB's Gallery of Girls on the other (private dances). "JBs" can be entered from outside or from a single interior door connecting the two.

01/08 I got there too early to check out the JBs side where the private dances are (doesn't open till 6pm). I was told by the bartender that the private dances are bikini only until 10pm, and then they go topless. Doesn't make much sense, but neither does the state's laws. The ladies taking the stage on the Headlights side were topless, and easily a 7 to a 9. I'll have to come back to check out the other side.

08/07 All the JB's are closed now. the one on Independence is gone as of about 4 weeks ago. They've all been closed or changed names at this point. Headlights in Chesapeake keeps the JB name for their full bar side of the club (the Bikini side).

08/07 This club used to be just JB's gallery of girls. It was bought a few years ago by the owners of the original headlights in Elizabeth City, NC. The club is split into 2 parts. The main part has a run way and bar that has 2 to 3 girls on at any given time. The run way features 2 stripper poles, lots of lighting and speakers placed in a few parts of the club. The Dancers have will dance and strip down to pasties/thongs. The DJ is near the front door. There are is are 2 men's bathrooms. One is located on the JB's side and the other on the headlight side. The JB's side features 2 small tables for girls to dance on in bikini's. One table has a pole. People can sit very close to the dancer as there is no rail. Also, this side serves Hard Liquor where the other side only serves beer. There is also a VIP room between the clubs for personal dances.

Small club with no stage, only lapdances. Club is around back, behind the novelty shop. Parking is well lit and secure (No dark alleyways to worry about) Reasonable cover charge. Nonstop music on Fridays and Saturdays (don't have to feed the jukebox) Ladies were of mixed quality ranging from a 4 to a 9. Ask for Anne.

04/08 Not bad. Better than some clubs in the area. Dancers ranged between a 3 and 6, and knew what they were doing. The cover varies, $7 till midnight ($5 if you\'re military), and $10 thereafter. I believe they close at 2am. Dances are $10 each. The jukebox has a better music selection that I've seen at other clubs. The juke is $2/song or $5 for three. I have to agree with the earlier post saying the songs were timed. I'll have to come back another time to see more of their dancers.
BTW, the number listed 499-1302 is for Final Fantasy, not the Hot Seat. I inquired, and they used to have a public pay phone, but not any longer. The bouncer keeps a private cell handy, but there's no public number.

01/06 Stumbled across your site tonight... thank you... I have my favorite club to add: The Hot Seat in Portsmouth, VA. Yes, I know Virginia is a damn piece of work, however... there's no runway; it's all lap dancing... $2 for the juke box and $10 a dance... the juke is timed; I think about 2 minutes a song... thongs & topless... full contact (patron can't touch breasts or bush) and worth it... Get the right girl, and... I've dropped some cash there, let me tell you... It's on George Washington Highway, across the parking lot from Mad Dogs, right next to the entrance to the Naval Shipyard's Scott Annex, and up the street from Lappers... Evidently Mad Dogs, Lappers, and Hot Seat (& some other place I don't know the name of) are possibly for sale. Rumor was asking $4 mil. Ouch.

01/08 Every bit the hole in the wall it appears to be. Cover is $7, dances are $10 + cost of the jukebox. Juke ran $2/song, or $5 for 3. Just a cooler with water and soft drinks, a few couches, and a few pool tables. Couches for dances are in the back, and are in no way private. Picture a greasy spoon diner layout with the tables removed. Dancers were all in the 1 to 4 range. There are better places in the area, whether you're looking for lap dances or stage dances and something to drink.

06/06 1st one I went to in VA. I'm from San Diego, had this place been there, I'd give it a 1. But since it was topless, which is more than at Virginia Beach, it gets a better score. I got there early and two girls just walked in. The 1st that basically offered extras was the nastiest, fat-in-all-the-wrong-places, most White trailer trash chick I've ever seen at club. I didn't think she was a dancer! The other was the opposite, easily a 8 or a 9! Guess which one I got the dance from. She rubbed me the right way. Ask for "Blondie"

03/05 Well I've only been there for about 2 months but we have a nice amount of clientele and some people tip. the dances are $10 plus u have to put money in the jukebox for music. we girls who work there know how to please a man. no women are allowed unless they pay $1,500. I'm the freshest and best thing in there though. its g-string lap dances. we go behind a curtain to a booth. so come see us!!!! ask 4 Kaluah!!!

01/08 Having been going to one Portsmouth club for some time, I decided to start looking around. Maddog's is absolutely nothing to get excited about. There was no cover charge, and after an hour there, I was d*&$ (glad) there wasn't. No private dances. A little less strip club, a little more of a smoky bar with a woman walking around on stage in a thong and pasties. Recommendation: go somewhere else.

Virginia is one of the most backward states when it comes to freedom of speech.

There are no strip clubs in Virginia. Sadly Portsmouth is a long drive to DC, Maryland, or NC.  - WOM

02/08 I'm not entirely sure about Majik City. My incursion there was short-lived (under one minute). There isn't a cover charge during the day. I'm not sure how much the charge is, or when it begins, but there's a warning sign that people who come in before the charge starts have to leave or pay up when the cover kicks in. There was a stage, but it was so dark I couldn't see if they were bikini-clad, pasties, or topless.

03/06 If you want to be hassled by average at best sisters, then this is your place, It's actually two clubs in one, there's the stage dance side, and the Lap dances are done next door.

That's exactly backwards from most clubs. Dancers are usually required to stay 'til closing but may start late. It's always a chicken-n-egg deal. If there aren't enough dancers, the customer won't come. If the customers don't come, the dancers will leave.

The WOM is really curious how they manage to be a nude club in a backwards state like Virginia that's ashamed of the their women's nipples... -- WOM

06/07 Need an update for all of the JB's.

05/01 This is the only TRUE JB's remaining. The others have been sold to other entities. Located next door to the Brass Bell, we are biker friendly, however colors need to be left outside, or behind the bar. Due to ABC laws, dancers are required to wear bikinis. There have recently been issues with the roof, and we are hoping the landlord will have those rectified soon.

The web-site domain name is currently owned by a third party, but we are in the process of getting a new one up and running. We would like to thank everyone for their continued support and patronage.

03/06 Mermaids is pretty decent for a Virginia Beach bikini bar... I've seen worse. The staff and dancers here are all pretty friendly, they play a variety of music on the jukebox. Decent-looking girls, some are very talented on the floor and pole, others seem to be so-so. They host a wet-tee contest every Thursday from 6-8, which I was greatly encouraged to attend. All in all, not too bad, but its still bikini-dancing on stage.
